Located only minutes from downtown Myrtle Beach, is a 27-hole golf complex that has earned a reputation for its challenging layout and superior maintenance. Arrowhead Country Club features three unique 9-hole tracts: The Waterway, The Cypress and The Lakes, each one with a feel all of its own. Working closely with architect Tom Jackson, Ray Floyd has designed one of the most unique and challenging courses in the Carolinas with the feel of a course set in the foot-hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Floyd's competitive spirit clearly flows over to his design philosophy as he challenges players to think strategically and rewards good course management.
Unique to the area, The Cypress course winds throughout a natural Carolina hardwood wetland. Taking great care to preserve the natural surroundings, some holes are bordered and even play through these naturally beautiful areas. Holes 2, 3 and 4 have been described as three of the most scenic holes in America. Featuring bulk-head protected greens, gradually undulating fairways and vast waste areas, The Cypress may be one of the most memorable nine holes you will ever play.
Carefully transposed onto the Sandhills bordering the Intracoastal Waterway, The Lakes demands precise shotmaking and daring nerves. No Floyd course would be without such a challenge. The Par 5, third hole is particularly tough, with its bulkheaded green, protected by water on the front side. You can lay it safe to the right or go for it to the left. But you have to play it to meet the challenge.
The Waterway is the newest of the three nine hole layouts. Completed in the Fall of 1995, The Waterway is a classic design featuring wide fairways, large greens and elevated tee boxes, Floyd's philosophy of giving the golfer a visual perspective of how to play each hole is very evident on this nine. Most notable is the Par 4, 387 yard 5th hole, which borders the scenic Intracoastal Waterway.
