Colorful sandstone canyons, hot rocky deserts, and cool forested plateaus are all part of Zion National Park. The rocks were formed over millions of years, and erosion has carved them into the formations we see today. Water is the single most important factor in the geology of this area. The springs, streams, and rivers have sculpted the rock formations into canyons, mesas, and cliffs.
The canyon landscape and wilderness are full of the unexpected. Zion’s complexion changes with the seasons, from the cascades of melting snow pouring over the cliff walls in spring, to the lush green and colorful wildflowers of early summer, to the brilliant foliage of autumn and winter brings deep silence and piercing beauty of multicolored sandstone spires piled high with snow and ice.
Open all year, the park is located in Southwest Utah with the main entrance just North of Springdale off UT Hwy 9, 30-45 minutes East of I-15. Bryce Canyon National Park is 65 miles to the Northeast.
Activities: Hiking, Horse Trails, Bicycle Trails and Photography.
