In Seattle, Washington is the Woodland Park Zoo located at North 50th and Fremont Avenue North.
Some of the popular exhibits among the various habitats include elephants, gorillas, monkeys, lions and other cats, wolves, river otters, bears, giraffes, gazelles, hyenas, zebra, hippopotamus, white-faced whistling ducks, snakes and lizards, and more. Since it often is rainy in Seattle, there are many indoor displays to enjoy. There's also a most interesting and varied bug and insect display. The Habitat Discovery Loop is a trail in the Temperate Forest where kids can pretend they are wild northwest animals, and also work off some excess energy by playing on a giant spider web, exploring a hollow tree trunk or mountain beaver burrow, and climbing inside turtle shells. This trail is entered from the Family Farm which is a "hands on" petting area.
There are also pony rides, a gift shop, and food pavilion. Woodland Park Zoo is handicappped (wheelchair) accessible and is open every day, but closes earlier in the Winter.
