
For some peace and quiet, visit Whidbey Island North of Seattle, Washington in the Puget Sound area. Ferry access to the island is either from Mukilteo to the Southern end of the island at Clinton, or from Port Townsend to Keystone on the West side of the island. Road access is by State Hwy 20, from West of I-5 by Mount Vernon and Burlington on the mainland. There are also small airports near Oak Harbor and Langley.
The towns on Whidbey Island (listed from North to South) offer a change of pace. Oak Harbor is the largest and the commercial center with entertainment, performing arts and golf. There is a large marina and airport with car rental facilities. Coupeville is the second oldest town in Washington state and the county seat of Island County. There are over 100 buildings listed on the National Historic Register. The historic waterfront and wharf reflect the charm of bygone days. The town hosts various festivals and special events. Visit the Island County Historical Society Museum, shop, dine, and relax. Greenbank, at the mile-wide "waistline" of Whidbey, enjoy the 360° vistas with the peaks of Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier to the East and the Olympic Mountain Range to the West. Freeland offers beautiful views of Holmes Harbor and is convenient to many attractions, restaurants, shopping, as well as great Winter salmon fishing and the scenic 18-hole Holmes Harbor Golf Course. Langley, a small-town world with flower-filled streets, alleys and courtyards of galleries, shops, antiques, restaurants, bakeries, coffee houses, and brew pubs. Clinton, with the ferry dock, provides the quickest surface access to Whidbey Island from Seattle. Try the Island Greens 9-hole golf course and fishing at Deer Lake or from the Fishing Pier.
