The Water Ski Hall of Fame and Museum is located 20 miles west of Disney World off Florida's Interstate 4, Exit 44, near Polk City; halfway between Orlando and Tampa. It is full of a wealth of sports memorabilia dating back 75 years for water skiing and boating enthusiasts of all ages. Some of the exhibits in the museum are: the First Pair of Water Skis, made in 1922 by 18 year old Ralph Samuelson and fashioned out of two pine boards. He used the crude pair of skis to ski across Lake Pepin in Lake City, Minnesota. There is an assortment of ropes and handles starting with a pair from 1922 to present day use. You won’t want to miss seeing a 1954 Correct Craft Boat and an assortment of antique outboard engines on display. There is a library full of books, audio tapes, video tapes, films, magazines and other reference material that documents the growth of water skiing. And of course, there are skis, skis and more skis from across the years for you to view.
You can also check out the Fantasy of Flight aircraft attraction in Polk City and Cypress Gardens, a water-skiing must-see in nearby Winter Haven.
