Eight miles west of the present-day border of Nebraska lies the western town of Torrington, WY. About 20 miles west of here and across the North Platte River south of the little town of Fort Laramie is the wonderfully restored Fort Laramie National Historic Site. This is a living history, restored fort and museum that is well worth the stop.
About 12 miles west of Fort Laramie off US Hwy 26 near Guernsey, is Register Cliff and a few miles more there are deep wagon ruts well worn into a section of sandstone (see Douglas).
