The first thing that you will notice about the International Tennis Hall of Fame, located in Newport, Rhode Island, is it's exquisite architecture. The building was originally designed by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White, and construction was completed in 1880 for this private club and playground for the wealthy summer residents. The historic courts are the world’s oldest continuously used competition grass courts and the only competition grass courts open to the public for play. This is a non-profit institution dedicated to the mission of "preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide". The museum and Hall of Fame complex have been restored to it's original splendor, a project that was completed in 1997, and took 10 years at a cost $7.5 million. The galleries chronicle the rich history of tennis through interactive exhibits, dynamic videos, and popular memorabilia from historic champions and the superstars of today. The Tennis Hall of Fame is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
