Stratton Mountain Resort, located on the highest peak in southern Vermont 20 miles from Manchester, is the largest resort in the region, and is known as the birthplace of snowboarding - it's where Jake Burton first invented and used a snowboard. Every winter the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships are held here as well as the weekly Border Cross Races. It is also home to a world-famous halfpipe at the Stratton Snowboard Park. Stratton Mountain offers an amazing skiing experience for beginner to expert with 92 trails, a 2,003-foot vertical drop, and is situated perfectly in the path of Vermont’s famed snowbelt, leaving heaps of snow behind each season. If you are looking for a change of pace then the Stratton Nordic Center might have something for you, with more than 20 miles of tracked cross-country trails. The Stratton Mountain Training Center offers programs for juniors and adults who are determined about their skiing. The entire staff of pros is certified by the American Association of Snowboard Instructors. The first day of snowboarding has been revolutionized - learning to snowboard can be a rhythmic experience of turning and flowing from one edge to the other. The town, located at the base of the mountain is car-free, has many stylish shops for the family, and many gourmet restaurants for a romantic dinner.
