The U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame and Museum, is located in Ishpeming, Michigan, about a dozen miles west of Marquette on the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. Known as the ”birthplace of organized skiing in America”, the little town of Ishpeming hosts the Hall of Fame and Museum which includes a theater, library, and gift shop. In the great room are 300+ photographs and biographies of inductees, a collection of various ski lift artifacts, including the world's first chair lift from 1936, a gondola, a skimobile, a T-bar, poma lift and more. There are ski fashions displayed ranging from the early 20th century to mid 1970’s. You can also see the first mechanized snow grooming equipment used at Sun Valley, Idaho. In addition, there is a display telling the history of the formation of the 10th Mountain Division in 1941, the first mountain skiing regiment in U.S. Army history.
The Hall of Fame is closed on Sundays and major holidays.
