The name Shenandoah summons imagery of a mythological river, one that flows through America's past in song, story, and folklore. The valley that shares its name is easily the most beautiful in Virginia, with a picturesque landscape of rolling hills and pastures, bounded by the Appalachian Blue Ridge Mountains on either side and bisected by the majestic river.
Skyline Drive, a 105-mile road (part of the much longer Blue Ridge Parkway), winds along the crest of the mountains through the length of the park. The park holds more than 500 miles of trails that are full of adventure, including 101 miles of the legendary Appalachian Trail. The trails may follow a ridge crest, or lead to lookout points with panoramic views or to waterfalls nestled in deep canyons.
The Park is located in the North part of Virginia paralleling within 20 miles, Interstate 81. The park is open all year, however Skyline Drive can close in Winters due to snow and/or ice. Activities: Hiking, Cross Country Skiing, Fishing, Horse Trails, and Mountain Climbing.
