The 247-acre Sedgwick County Zoo at 5555 Zoo Boulevard in Wichita, Kansas, has been ranked among the best zoos in the world. It is home to more than 2,500 animals of nearly 500 different species, and is the number one family attraction in Kansas. Animals are situated thoughout the various exhibit areas: African Veldt (baboon, zebra, gazelle, hippo, lion, rhino, meerkat); Apes and Man (chimpanzees and orangutans); Asian Steppes (crane, goose, stork, leapord, tapir); Boat Ride Islands (lemur, monkey); Children's Farms (cow, buffalo, camel, pig); North American Prairie (bear, bison, cougar, pronghorn, porcupine, wolf, eagle); Herpetarium (frog, tortoise, gecko, lizard); Jungle (tamarin, macaw, mynah, piranha); and Pampas/Outback (wallaby, kangaroo, ibis, cockatoo, parrot).
The Gazebo Grill serves a variety of items on its menu. There are also smaller food service areas, gift shops, and a minature train. Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available. The zoo is open all year except for a special fund raising event that usually is held the first or second Saturday in September.
