The San Francisco Zoo, nestled against the Pacific Ocean at 1 Zoo Road, San Francisco, California, provides a comfortable climate year round for 250 different animal species in naturalistic habitats. See an anteater, anaconda, bears, chimpanzee, coyote, eagle, hippopotamus, gorilla, flamingo, elephant, lemur, kangaroo, koala, giraffe, seal, lorikeet, lion, tiger, meerkat, rhinoceros, stork, ostrich, penquin, zebra, and more. There's also a six-acre Children's Zoo providing hands-on interaction with animals, like grooming livestock or collecting eggs. Kids can also peer through microscopes in the Insect Zoo and crawl through a child-sized burrow at the Meerkats and Prairie Dogs exhibit. Also on display is the intricate restoration of the famed Dentzel Carousel.
The San Francisco Zoo is open all year. The zoo has a gift shop and the Leaping Lemur Café offers indoor dining. Wheelchair, stroller, and wagon rentals are available.
