The San Antonio Zoo, at 3903 No. St. Mary's St., San Antonio, Texas is one of the country's premier zoos with 3,500 animals among 750 species. The zoo's conservation programs, such as with white and black rhinos, flamingo, whooping crane, snow leopard, and many others are recognized around the world. The zoo has monkeys, Asian and African elephants, lemurs, ocelot, leopards, lions, giraffe, rhinoceros, tamarin, tigers, wallaby, zebra, bears, armadillos, fox, hippotamus, hyenas, alligators, iguana, and more. There's also a good variety of fish, reptiles and birds. The Lori Landing offers close-up encounters and hands-on experience with over 40 lories – they flock around you, land on your shoulders, and even sit on your head! You can also purchase some nectar and feed the lories. Playful, curious, acrobatic and vibrantly colorful, these Australian parrot-like birds are fun to watch.
The San Antonio Zoo is open all year, and has a gift shop, restaurant, picnic area, playground and fun farm. There are wheelchair, strollers and wagons available to rent.
