Florida and Saint Augustine were later acquired by the United States. In the 1880’s Henry M. Flagler arrived in Saint Augustine and established the town as a leisure resort, featuring golf and yacht racing, and a winter playground for the rich and famous. Beginning in 1959, and ongoing today, a preservation effort began. Today many of the colonial structures have been restored to their original appearance and historic Saint Augustine has become a center of colonial Spanish culture. A combination of old world charm, national monuments, and more than 20 unique attractions make a visit to Saint Augustine an ideal family vacation.
