The Roger Williams Park Zoo is located in the award-winning Roger Williams Park, the "Jewel of Providence", in Providence, Rhode Island. The Zoo itself has received numerous accolades and has consistently been nationally ranked in various categories by many recognized sources. The zoo provides homes to nearly 1,000 animals and 160 different species while entertaining almost 700,000 visitors a year, making it Rhode Island's #1 outdoor tourist attraction. The various habitat exhibit areas and animals include: Plains of Africa with elephants, ostrich, zebra, cheetas, giraffes; Madagassar with tortoise, lemurs; Australiasia with kangaroo, wallabies, reptiles, birds; North America with polar bear, wolves, sea lions, bison, seals; Tropical America with monkeys, crocodiles, birds; and Marco Polo Trail with camels, snow leopards, moon bears. There are various food facilities, as well as gift shops. The Roger Williams Park Zoo is open all year except for Chistmas Day. Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available.
Other attractions in the Roger Williams Park include: a carousel, bumper boats, pony rides, playground, paddleboats, Museum of Natural History, Planetarium; and Greenhouse exhibits.
