The Rio Grande Zoo is an integral part of the Albuquerque Biological Park (BioPark), which also consists of a botanic gardens, and an acquarium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In all, there are 6,000 animals and 11,000 plants represented. The Rio Grande Zoo at 903 Tenth Street SW, is a world-class facility with over a thousand animals - polar bears, wolves, elephants, monkeys, cheetahs, seals, sea lions, llamas, alpacas, zebra and more. A short distance away are the gardens and acquarium at 2601 Central Avenue NW. The Rio Grande Botanic Gardens is a state-of-the-art glass conservatory with lots of plants, blooms, herbs, fountains, and a butterfly pavilion. The Albuquerque Aquarium includes many H20 discoveries, like eels, lobster, various fish, sharks, coral reef, salt marsh grass, and even a display of several historical sailing ships, ocean murals and nautical artifacts, such as a mermaid figurehead, sails, mast, buoys, a ship’s bell, maps and an interactive ship’s wheel.
The zoo is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days. The Shark Reef Cafe and Cottonwood Cafe provide great food service, there are also gift shops. Strollers and wheelchairs are available to rent.
