At approximately the same latitude as some of the famous French wine regions, the Puget Sound Region's vineyards in Washington State take advantage of averaging two additional hours of sun per Summer day than their California counterparts. These extra two hours help the grapes ripen earlier, making this Appellation’s specialties the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Madeline Angevine, Muller Thurgau, and Siegerebbe.
The Puget Sound Wine Country, centered near Seattle, Washington hosts events all year, ranging from barrel tastings, picnics, and many other events combining good food and local wines.
Visitors will find the wineries wrapped in and around the waters and islands that make up the Northwest’s Puget Sound. More than a half dozen wineries can be seen by driving a loop around the Puget Sound, some ferry rides are necessary to see all the wineries and complete the loop. For those new to the area, the Puget Sound also offers numerous fresh seafood restaurants, shopping, ferry rides, and natural observation points.
