On the 17th of September of 1920, the NFL was formed and a game began that would significantly change the face of the American sports field and transform regular men into warriors and champions. The next ten years were some of the most unstable for the NFL, with many teams having a small fan base and other teams facing financial failure. Eventually it would expand beyond the difficulties it faced in it’s beginning years and come to be one of the most popular sports of today.
We honor the champions of yesteryear and of the present time at the birthplace of the NFL in Canton, Ohio at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Building construction broke ground in August, 1962, and in 1963, it opened with 17 Enshrinees in its Halls. Since then, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has expanded to include 4 additional buildings and hundreds of thousands of extra square feet of space that is home to over 200 members of the Hall of Fame.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame works with all facets of the pro football family - the Commissioner's Office, the NFL Clubs, NFL Films, NFL Properties. The cooperative efforts of all these organizations have contributed greatly to the overall success of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In turn, the Hall strives to serve as the best possible historical showplace and repository for the sport of pro football.
