The Phoenix Zoo, located east of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, first opened its doors to the public in 1962. Today, the Phoenix Zoo is one of America’s most successful non-profit zoological parks, participating in several local and international efforts on behalf of endangered species. Families can plan to spend a joyous day being amazed by over 1,300 different animals, many of which are on the endangered species list and live in habitats that are almost exactly like the places they would live in the wild. Families can also enjoy the amazement of a tropical rainforest and an exciting petting zoo for the children. The zoo is also adding additional attractions and animal shows to entertain visitors.
The Phoenix Zoo is open every day of the year, regardless of the weather conditions, only closing on December 25 to observe Christmas. There are several food vendors, a gift shop, and the Safari Train. The zoo is handicapped accessible.
