In 1950, the city had 105,000 people and was 99th in size in the U.S., today it is the 6th largest with over 1.2 million. The metropolitan area, including Scottsdale, Mesa and Tempe, totals over 2.2 million. There is a Spanish and Mexican influence with architecture, dining and culture. The area is one of the world's top 5 golf destinations and also has many world-class resorts, spas, dining and shopping.
