Over 1,000 specimens represent 200+ species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Of these, over 20 species are endangered and more than 30 are threatened. The Oregon Zoo highlights animals and their own habitat areas. The zoo's botanical garden has more than 1,000 species of exotic plants. Some of the various animals exhibited include (alphabetically) bears, beaver, chimpanzee, elephant, elk, ferret, gazelle, gibbon, giraffe, hippos, lemur, leopard, lorikeet, monkey, musk ox, owls, penguins, rhinos, sea lion, stork, tiger, zebra, and more. The award-winning Oregon Zoo, established in 1887, is the oldest zoo west of the Mississippi. It has an annual attendance in excess of 1.3 million.
The Oregon Zoo is open everyday except Christmas. There's the Cascade Grill, food carts, AfriCafe and BearWalk Cafe. The "Cascade Outfitters" gift shop and minature train are additional attractions. The zoo is handicapped accessible. Activities:
