Morro Bay, California is at the sourthern point of our scenic drive along Highway 1 and the Big Sur Coastal Highway. The 575-foot Morro Rock at the entrance to the bay is the signature landmark for this beautiful spot on the coast. This is a popular surfing area from the beach. There's also kayaking, boat tours through the bay, golfing, shopping, and for bird watchers, the Morro Bay Estuary provides a rich habitat for over 250 bird species including the endangered Peregrine Falcon which nest on Morro Rock. The Morro Bay Natural History Museum at Morro Bay State Park is a discovery experience for young and old alike. Ride a trolley around town shopping or ride on a replica of an old Mississippi River boat. Visit Tidelands Park for views of boats or buy a unique souvenir or shells from the various shops. There's also great fresh seafood dining.
About 5 miles north of Morro Bay on Hwy 1 is the town of Cayucos, a charimng beach town situated between the rolling hills and the sea. Outdoor activities include surfing, boogie boarding, sea kayaking, fishing off the pier, or taking in the sandy beach. Cayucos also is known for the many antique and gift shops, as well as the scenic beauty.
