The Minnesota Zoo, south of downtown Minneapolis in Apple Valley, Minnesota, is situated on 500 acres with 2,300 animals including over a 100 animals and 15 species on the endangered list. There are several different habitats to visit, such as the Wells Fargo Family Farm which is a real working farm. Northern Trail includes exhibits featuring Mexican wolves, woodland caribou and the stately moose. Don't miss the Tiger Lair exhibit, home of the majestic amur tigers plus Asian wild horses, bactrian camels and bison. The World of Bird Show offers soaring hawks, talking parrots, exotic macaws, majestic owls, stately eagles and many more rare and beautiful feathered creatures. When you visit the Tropics Trail, you'll venture into the world of a Southeast Asian rain forest where you can watch kangaroos, gibbons and Malayan sun bears. The Discovery Bay holds 1.1 million gallons of water which is home to dolphins, rays, sharks and other marine life. The Minnesota Trail exhibit features animals that make Minnesota their home, such as the puma, wolverines and otters. If you get tired of the walk, check out the monorail which gives riders a bird’s-eye-view of the park.
There are shops and kiosks at the zoo showcasing fun and educational gifts for the entire family with an array of zoo-related items. If you're hungry, don’t worry, The Call of the Wild Food Court is open year-round with a variety of menu choices and a spacious dining area overlooking the zoo's main lake. The zoo is open year round except on Thanksgiving and Christmas days.
