The Milwaukee County Zoo west of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is situated on 200 wooded acres and is home to 2,500 animals representing 300 species. It is considered one of the finest zoos in the country. The zoo recently completed its 100th anniversary with renovations to the Aquatic & Reptile Center, the Stackner Heritage Farm and the Polar Bear, Sea Lion, Aviary, and Primates of the World exhibits, as well as additions of the Peck Welcome Center, Humboldt Penguin exhibit and Apes of Africa building. The zoo emphasizes natural habitats featuring forests and prairies where herbivores play and carnivores are separated from their wandering lunch by hidden moats.
