Two separate volcanoes erupted long ago resulting in a depression between the two, thereby giving Maui its nickname, "The Valley Isle". The roads around the island are lined with rich red soil, central Maui is still carpeted with grassy green, and the deep blue of the ocean and the sky mingles with the red and green of Maui’s landscape.
Maui has become a popular destination among the six major tourist islands of Hawaii. Paradise is a word that takes on special meaning for couples on Maui. Sunsets and moonlit walks on tropical beaches, tumbling waterfalls framed by hillsides carpeted in exotic blooms and gorgeous green rainforest, candle-lit dinners in world-class restaurants, snorkeling in an underwater garden, taking an escorted tour of the island, hiking the magnificent Haleakala Crater, riding a bicycle down the Haleakala volcanic peak, surfing, swimming, sun tanning at Kaanapali or Wailea or other beaches.
So even if you're not going to 'get Maui'd' on Maui, it's still a fantastic honeymoon destination.
