The Los Angeles Zoo and Botancial Garden is located in Griffith Park near the junction of the I-5 and Hwy 134 Freeways in Los Angeles, California. In the heart of the nation’s second-largest city, the zoo entertains 1 1/2 million visitors each year who come to view more than 1,200 animals from around the world. The collection of animals include lemurs, hippos, lions, monkeys, elephants, camels, alligators, leopards, lizards, tortoises, koalo bears, wallabies, kangaroos, cockatoos, macaws, parrots, zebras, bighorn sheep, giraffes, tapir, and more. There are shows at the World of Birds and Sea Lion Training exhibits, as well as animal encounters at the Winnick Family Children's Zoo. The zoo participates in worldwide efforts to protect and safeguard many endangered species and is well-known for its efforts in the California Condor Recovery Program. An integral part of the zoo is its fantastic Botanical Gardens with more than 7,400 individual plants and 800 plant species. There's the Safari Shuttle, the LA Choo Choo minature train, food services, and gift shop. The Los Angeles Zoo is open every day except Christmas and is handicapped accessible, wheelchairs and strollers are available.
