The Liberty Bowl Football Classic pits the Conference USA Champions with an SEC or at-large team in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in midtown Memphis, Tennessee next to the Mid-South Coliseum in the fairgrounds complex. On Jan 2, 2009, Kentucky beat East Carolina 25-19.
The Liberty Bowl has been played since 1959, moving from Philadelphia (home of the famous Liberty Bell) in 1965. A pre-game buffet held inside the Mid-South Coliseum across from the Liberty Bowl, features a "Battle of the Bands." This is a popular event with all you can eat and drink while listening to each team's school band and getting pumped up for the game. There is an admission charge for this event.
Tickets for the game and pre-game buffet may be ordered by phone at 901-795-9095, or the respective school's ticket offices.
Memphis also has many other attractions such as Graceland, Beale Street, and historic sites.
