The Lake of the Ozarks, located in central Missouri, is the largest privately owned lake in the United States. The lake's shores stretch from Bagnell Dam in the town of Lake Ozark, 92 miles in a northwesterly direction to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' dam on Truman Lake. The vast, meandering shoreline is surrounded by forests, hills and bluffs. The Missouri State flower is the Dogwood and the lake is well known for them.
Two premier State Parks in the area are Lake of the Ozarks State Park and Ha Ha Tonka. Activities for the outdoor enthusiast include horseback riding, hiking, bird watching, bicycling, golf and water sports, to name a few. There are also several caves in the area offering guided tours as well as Lake excursion tours.
This beautiful and quiet area also has various other attractions, like over 50 waterfront restaurants offering menus ranging from a quick snack to a gourmet dinner. The two main cities are Lake Ozark and Osage Beach.
