With a recent multi-million dollar renovation and expansion, the Kansas City Zoo that started with one building, has now grown to over 200 acres and is home to more than 1,300 animals. The zoo, at 6800 Zoo Drive, Kansas City, Missouri, features outdoor exhibits where you can see the animals in their natural habitats including, Orangutan House, Tropical Habitat Building, Australian Outback, Great Cat Walk, Okavango Elephant Sanctuary and California Sea Lions. The petting zoo allows the kids a hands-on experience. For a wild adventure without leaving your seat, you can visit the IMAX® Theatre located at the entrance of the zoo. There is a tram available year-round to help you travel around the zoo. Seasonal transportation include train and boat rides. Camel and pony rides are also available for the kids.
If you want to bring home a souvenir of the zoo the gift shop offers a variety of unique gifts. There are restaurants and snack stands located throughout the zoo so you can either spend an afternoon or the entire day at the zoo. Stroller, wheelchair and electric scooter rentals are available. The Kansas City Zoo is open all year except Christmas and New Year’s days.
