Hyannis, Massachusets, the 'Homeport of Cape Cod', boasts the area's largest concentration of businesses, shops, motels, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment spots. The southern tip of Massachusetts stretches approximately 100 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean creating the wonderful peninsula known as Cape Cod - the north side shore opens to the cool waters of Massachusetts Bay while the southern beaches reach to the warm and gentle waters of Nantucket Sound. Centrally situated is the town of Barnstable with shorefronts on both north and south coasts. The seven villages of Barnstable include Hyannis, Centerville, Osterville, Cotuit, Marstons Mills, West Barnstable, and Barnstable Village. Together they offer historic homes, beautiful sandy beaches, golf, fabulous dining and great family recreation. In the Main Street and Waterfront District you’ll find Hyannis Harbor, the Village Green, the JFK Hyannis Museum, the JFK Memorial Park. There's also the beaches, fishing, kite flying, miniature golf, golf, bike paths, tennis/racquetball clubs, windsurfing, galleries, and more.
One of the earliest nationally known personalities to enjoy the area was President Ulysses S. Grant in 1874. Some years later President Grover Cleveland visited Hyannisport, and of course John F. Kennedy and his parents Joseph P. Kennedy of Boston, along with other members of the family had homes in the 'Kennedy Compound'. The best way to see the Compound and other homes and sights is via summer cruises available from Hyannis Harbor.
