One of the largest "children's zoo" in the country, and even with its own local TV show, the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is an attraction that half a million people enjoy every year. Located at 3411 Sherman Blvd. in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the zoo is home to over 1,500 animals situated throughout four main areas: the Central Zoo, African Veldt, Indonesian Rain Forest, and the Australian Adventure. There are animals from alligator to zebra, like the bobcat, crane, eels, fish, giraffe, kangaroo, llama, monkeys, orangutan, ostrich, peacock, penquin, prairie dog, red panda, sea lion, stork, swan, tiger, turtles, warthog, and more.
There's also minature train rides, pony rides, safari jeep tours, a carousel (with zoo animal replicas to ride), and dugout boat rides (some rides are seasonal), as well as a cafe and a gift shop. The Fort Wayne Children's Zoo is open from the last weekend in April through the 2nd weekend in October. There are strollers, wagons and wheelchairs available to rent. All the zoo is wheelchair accessible.
