Carmel, California, or "Carmel-By-The-Sea", is a pleasant village where visitors relax, unwind and enjoy the peaceful ambience where they can stroll through the streets, alleyways, and courtyards exploring lots of unique shops, art studios and galleries, as well as enjoying a meal in one of the many fine restaurants. A visit to the restored 1769 Spanish mission is worth the time. Just south of Carmel along Highway One is Point Lobos with a great view of the rocky coast. While in Carmel, a scenic California coastal trip should include the 17-mile Scenic Drive in Monterey, a toll road along famous golf courses, the beautiful coast past rocky ocean vistas and wind-twisted cypress trees. Monterey also offers Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey Bay Acquarium, whale watching and the outlying wine country.
