The Brookfield Zoo is located just 14 miles west of downtown Chicago at First Avenue and 31st Street in Brookfield, Illinois. The Zoo has animals from aardvarks to zebras. The exhibits are divided among various themes and habitats. The Swamp has turtles, snakes and frogs; the Living Coast has fish and penquins; the Tropic World has gorillas, monkeys, and orangutans; the Pachyderm House has elephants; the Seven Seas has dolphin; the Habitat Africa Savannah includes the giraffe; the Hamill Family Play Zoo and Children's Zoo offer hands on interaction with the animals; the Hoofed Animals includes camels; Australia House includes the kangaroo; Be A Bird has roadrunners, owls, quail; while other themed exhibits/habitats are Baboon Island; Wolf Woods, Ibex Island; Perching Bird House; Salt Creek Wilderness; Reptile House; and Fragile Kingdom.
There is also a gift shop and several restaurants and cafes. The Brookfield Zoo is open every day and is handicapped accessible.
