Bristol, Rhode Island, near Providence and Warwick, boasts one of the longest running July 4th celebrations in the country. This small town of Americana has been celebrating every year since 1785.
There are several individual events in June, with the main events coming on July 3 with spectacular fireworks over beautiful Bristol harbor after dark. Preceding this there is a drum and bugle corp competition (admission charge) on July 3 at 7:00 PM. This competition is one the highlights of the Bristol Fourth of July Celebration - it has grown to be one of the finest such competitions, featuring top Drum and Bugle Corps from around the United States and Canada. Independence Day celebration then culminates with a parade on the 4th beginning mid morning (arrive early).
