Now the largest city in the state and also its capital city, Boise, ID was reached by the Oregon Trail travelers some time in mid-September. After Three Island Crossing about 70 miles southeast of here (see Twin Falls) the emigrants passed through over the Boise River. The Hudson's Bay Company Fort Boise was another 45 miles west by the Boise and Snake Rivers. This fort served the trail, but spring floods finally were its demise. A new American Fort Boise was built at the Boise town site close to the end of the Oregon Trail Days - it helped the city on its way to growth.
