The Badlands of South Dakota are a work of art still in progress. With the largest, protected mixed grass prairie in the United States. Water and wind continues to sculpt the pliant soil into sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires to resemble medieval castles made of sand. During sunrise or sunset the artistry of the Badlands is on full display. The duff-colored soils glow in shades of red, pink, and violet.
Located just South of Interstate 90, about one hour East of Rapid City, SD, the park is open year-round depending on snow conditions.
Activities: Hiking, Fossil Viewing and Wildlife Viewing.
