Considered by many to be one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in the country, the Arkansas Oktoberfest in Hot Springs, Arkansas celebrates all that is German - an alpenhorn concert, a German dog show, oom-pah bands, polka party, knackwurst and, of course, beer. There's also a parade, arts and craft show, horseshoe tournament, and other activities. The festival takes place the 1st weekend in October beginning Friday and running through Saturday (2006 celebration to be held October 6th through the 7th), with some events indoors at the Convention Center.
Hot Springs, Arkansas is noted for its thermal waters and spas. The entire "Bathhouse Row" area is a National Historic Landmark that contains the grandest collection of bathhouses of its kind in North America. Hot Springs National Park protects the 47 hot springs and their watershed by this scenic town in the Ouachita Mountains.
