With roads, including the famed Route 66, and the railroad, Albuquerque became an important crossroads - today Interstates 40 and 25 intersect the city. The city's Old Town is rich in 18th century architecture with shopping, artwork and dining. The area has many important historic Indian and Spanish sites including a large collection of petroglyphs. Albuquerque hosts the largest hot air balloon festival with over 1,000 balloons participating during 8 days in October.
